In an apicoectomy surgery, an incision is made to the gum tissue to expose the bone and inflamed tissue. After the damaged tissue and the root tip are removed, a root-end filling is put in its place to prevent any infection in the root before the gum is sutured. The bone naturally heals around the root over a period of months, assisting in restoring tooth function. There is an approximate 70% success rate with an apicoectomy surgery. Dr. Kern is one of a few oral surgeons who do this surgery. Call 816-373-0800 for a consultation.
With an apicoectomy, we can remove any inflamed or infected tissue and the very end of your tooth's root to preserve your natural tooth.
